New conspiracy theory

Weather, mind control, or scientific study? Some people are saying those jet contrails in the sky - aren’t

The offices of The Review were visited Monday by a gentleman interested in passing on some information on something he perceived to be a threat to our food supply.

"See that sky?" he asked, pointing up valley towards the pass at Yellow Lake.

"You will never see blue sky again," he said. Monday’s sky was a robin’s egg blue, a light haze obscuring what is usually - in the Similkameen at least - a brilliant blue.

He went on to describe a conspiracy to control the weather, by dumping chemicals into the upper atmosphere via U.S. military aircraft.

Monday was a hot day, and indeed, the air had a haze to it, the type of haze often visible in the summer when a forest fire is burning somewhere in the distance. I was about to suggest he look at a few photos in our archives, taken on bright blue spring mornings, but held back to hear what he had to say.

"The atmosphere is being filled with a mist," he said. "It is tainting our food supply - in a couple of years we won’t be able to feed ourselves. They have surrounded the earth with a veil - you can’t see the stars at night clearly anymore, either. It’s why it stays cold here until June, and why storms are more severe."

This weather controlling conspiracy theory was supported by numerous websites including a number of blogs, a couple of which he passed on to me before leaving.

Having never heard of this theory before, I looked up these topics online. The following summarizes some of the reasons behind these conspiratorial views:

Wikipedia describes it thus:

"The 'Chemtrail conspiracy theory' holds that trails seen behind some high altitude aircraft are not ordinary contrails, but are the result of high- altitude spraying of some kind of chemicals for a purpose unknown to the general public. There are different versions of the theory , which hypothesize different chemical composition and purposes. Some chemtrail analysts report that the trails are composed of barium and aluminum oxide, and could be an attempt to affect climate by reflecting sunlight in the atmosphere. Other hypotheses include that they are sprayed over populated areas to affect human beings."

Apparently the chemtrail theory began to receive notoriety in the mid to late 1990’s. One can define them because they differentiate from a normal jet contrail by being “much thicker, extending across the sky and laid down in varying patterns like X’s, tic - tac - toe grids, cross hatched , and parallel lines. Instead of quickly dissipating, chemtrails expand and drip feathers and mares’ tails, forming a thin white veil or a fake cirrus type cloud that persists for hours.”

Suggested purposes of the chemtrails include:

Weather control.

Military control

-wireless network system component. - sophisticated radar system.

Scientific study.

Biological warfare.

Cloud seeding to cause precipitation.

Hegemonic mind control.

Extraterrestrial alien cover up.

Occult purposes.

The HAARP (High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program) is an investigation project to 'understand, simulate, and control ionispheric processes that might alter the performance of communication and satellite systems'.

The project started in 1993 and was expected at the time to last 20 years. Jointly funded by the United States Air Force, the Navy, the University of Alaska and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the project involved utilization of a former over- the- horizon radar installation in Gakona, Alaska.

Conspiracy theories surrounding HAARP include crediting it with being a secret missile tracking / defense system or an earthquake tracking / causing system. Other possibilities suggest that it could be used for weather control mind control, or some other function, including fears that it could be used as a weapon, especially since it receives funding from military sources.

The claims come in part from critics who seem to think that the project is dumping enough energy into the ionosphere to change the physics of that portion of the atmosphere. Even the Russians have objected to it, even though Russia has a similar facility of its own.

More information can be found by on the internet concerning the above mentioned subjects.

In the meantime, I’ll be paying more attention to those jet contrails in the sky, and at least now I know who - or what - is really to blame for our weather.
